The Best Interview Starts Long Before You Walk Into the Room

A conversation with Roy Basson, CPO at CheckNet

Roy, what led you to develop this new capability?

In conversations with HR professionals and recruiters, we kept hearing the same challenge: interview time is limited, and every minute counts.

Even when recruiters have access to background information, it's not always clear where to dig deeper, which findings deserve clarification, or what questions will lead to a more complete understanding of the candidate.

We wanted to help recruiters walk into every interview better prepared.

CheckNet already provides comprehensive background information. Why add another layer?

Information is only the first step. The real value comes from knowing what to do with it.

An experienced recruiter can review a background report, identify important signals, and build meaningful interview questions around them—but that requires time, experience, and careful analysis.

Our goal was to make that process faster, more accessible, and more consistent, helping organizations establish a higher standard across every recruiter.

So what does the new capability actually do?

The platform analyzes the findings surfaced during the background check and identifies topics that may warrant further discussion.

Based on those findings, it generates contextual follow-up questions designed to help recruiters better understand the candidate and conduct more focused, productive interviews.

For every suggested question, the system also explains the reasoning behind it—what caught the platform's attention and why that topic may deserve additional exploration.

Can you give us an example?

Imagine the platform identifies an unusual career transition or a significant shift in a candidate's professional path.

Instead of expecting the recruiter to notice it independently, CheckNet highlights the finding, explains why it may be relevant, and suggests questions that help uncover the context, motivation, and story behind the change.

What makes this approach more valuable than simply reading the report?

A report presents information.

Hiring decisions are made through conversations, judgment, and thoughtful questions.

Recruitment isn't just about collecting data—it's about understanding the person behind the data and determining whether they're the right fit for the role and the organization.

If the information helps a recruiter ask a better question, receive a more meaningful answer, and gain a deeper understanding of the candidate, then it has created real business value.

That's exactly what we're enabling.

Is this capability designed only for recruitment?

Not at all.

This capability can support any decision-making process that requires a deeper understanding of a person or organization before moving forward.

Its purpose is not only to identify topics that deserve further attention, but also to guide users on what to ask and why it matters.

Recruitment is certainly one of the areas where the value is most apparent, because sometimes a single well-informed question can significantly improve the quality of a hiring decision.

What's the long-term vision?

Our vision is for CheckNet to do more than deliver information.

We want the platform to help organizations extract the maximum business value from that information.

We're continuously expanding our AI capabilities to transform fragmented public data into actionable insights, practical guidance, and decision-support tools that help organizations make faster, smarter, and more confident decisions.

This new capability is another step toward that vision- helping recruiters arrive at every interview better prepared, more focused, and more confident.

And this is only the beginning. More capabilities designed to support safer, smarter, and more efficient hiring processes are already on the way. Stay tuned.
